The dipper is the ancestor of the tap, being used to heat and distribute water. It is suspended in the fireplace like a cauldron, using its handle, and the hot water is then poured. The distinctive feature of this one is the shape of the symmetrical pouring spouts, which suggest animal mouths (possibly of dragons).
